You may consider Rachel Stamp to be the ultimate good-time Rock n'Roll band, an opinion I've never understood (like, don't you guys read the lyric book?). You may regard Rachel Stamp as the soundtrack through your turbulent life, as you grip the steering wheel trying desperately not to career off the road into total wreckage. You may consider Rachel Stamp to be the only voice you can turn to and/or that understands you in your hour of darkness. You may see Rachel Stamp as a pretty picture and couldn't give a shit about the music. It is not my intention to tell you what Rachel Stamp should mean to you but I will tell you what Rachel Stamp means to me.

First off I don't think there has ever been a more misunderstood band in the history of the universe. Maybe I should learn to write songs in plainer English but I've always been in love with the Rock n' Roll tradition of writing in a vaguely coded language so WE know what I'm talking about but THEY are oblivious. 'I wanna be your Doll' passed the uninitated by as a homage to Barbie but was of course a sad statement of how Catholic religion and it's lust to make sinners of us all by plying us with vast amount of guilt ends up stripping us of true emotion and leaves us as stifled shells and so we may as well all end up as pretty little objects of lust, as love (both physical and spiritual) has been mentally beaten out of us. That was a song of defeat. I don't want to be defeated, I want to win. Which reminds me that no Rachel Stamp song can be taken as a definitive statement. I can't tell how any one individual will react to any one song. Some people take what is meant in humour to be serious ('Ladies & Gents', anyone?) and things that are deadly serious to be a joke (I Got the Worm,' for example- it ain't about Tequilla, folks). Rachel Stamp isn't simply defined. Why do bands have to be categorised? What is it with the press and record industry in this country that they have to pigeon-hole everything? Why, in every interview that I ever done, have words I blatantly did not say been accredited to me? I tell you why: because if you don't fit the agenda they will lie and manipulate and bend the truth until you appear to be what they want you to be. Well y'know fuck that. This band is not about making grand statements but if we do stand for anything it's for the right to be an individual. Freedom. The ultimate goal. So next time Rachel Stamp interacts with your world please just listen a bit closer. Look a little harder. Open up it's all there to be experienced.

Lovexxx

I met a boy, he was a star
He saw everybody as sluts and sharks

"Do you love me for my money?
Or do you love me for my fame?
Do you love me for my face?
Or do you love me for my name?"
I said "I love you for your words
Isn't that what you're famous for?"

He saw everybody as sluts and sharks
